1 Volunteer, 6x the Impact

Elsa, who spent nearly 20 years as a trainer at the United Nations, signed up as an AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP volunteer in 2019 to share her lifetime of experience. In a little more than three years volunteering with CSS, she has served nearly 1,000 hours helping her community. That shows incredible dedication and commitment under any circumstances, and especially when most volunteers had to reduce their service time during the pandemic.

Elsa is a jack-of-all-trades volunteer for RSVP. She works in six different assignments, some remote and some in-person. They vary from career counseling, to literacy tutoring, to airport customer service at JFK, and more. One day you will find her tutoring a young child, the next she will be mentoring a young adult entering the workforce, and the next she'll be writing to her pen pals who live in nursing homes.

Elsa tells us that she appreciates the opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills and share her lifetime of experience with others. Shr brings humility along with her expertise and insists that she gets as much from her students, mentees, and pen pals as they get from her. Her dedication to helping others is unmatched.
