The Next Step in the Fight for Pay Equity: Expanding Pay Transparency

Summary:

While New York State has one of the lowest gender pay gaps in the nation, progress in closing the gap has stalled and large disparities persist across race and ethnicity. The existence of comparatively strong equal pay laws in New York has undoubtedly helped, but there is an urgent need for additional action to fully eliminate pay inequities across the state.

Pay transparency laws has proven to be an essential tool for addressing the gender pay gap. We are calling on legislators to continue their commitment to gender and racial equity by taking bold action to expand pay transparency locally and statewide, and in this brief we demonstrate our case.
